James R "Jim" Foster

Jim Foster, age 93 of Abilene, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 3, 1932 to Orville and Maude (Britt) Foster in Talmage, Kansas. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1950. After graduation he served 41/2 years with the Army National Guard and worked alongside with his father and brother Ivan in their excavating business.

On April 20, 1952 he married Ruth Dahnke. To this union they had three children, Steve, Michelle, and Teresa Ann who was stillborn.

Jim worked for Green Ford as Service Manager for many years where he made countless friendships with coworkers and customers. After retiring, he went straight back to work helping his son at Steve’s Auto Care for eight years.

Jim held many titles, husband, father, grandpa, great great grandpa, uncle, storyteller and friend to everyone. A natural born workaholic, he enjoyed building late model dirt track racecars with his son for 33 years. As well as camping and boating. He left a positive impact on so many lives. Most of all he fiercely loved his family and will be greatly missed by us all.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ann, daughter-in-law Theresa Herman Foster, his parents, and siblings Ivan Foster, Geneva Wingate, and Donna Reed.

He is survived by his son Steve (Jacque) Foster, daughter Michelle (Bob) Dewey, four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Danner Funeral Home, Friday October 31, 2025 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 1, 2025 at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow at the Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage.
