Geary County Farm Bureau
On Monday at a special evening sale held at JC Livestock, Geary County Farm Bureau Association recognized Mike and Christina Strauss as the Geary County Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year. The couple, their children, and grandchildren were also presented with a Century Farm Award.
The Strauss family farm was purchased in 1923, and Mike and Christina are the third generation to own and operate it.Mike remembers his father being one of the first dairy farmers in Kansas to own a silage bagger. He also remembers the hard labor of putting up thousands of small square bales of alfalfa. Over the years, the farm has changed with the times, from dairy cattle and the crops needed to support them, to cash crops like wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, and pasture rental.
Several Geary County Farm Bureau Board members presented the Strauss family with signs that recognize the family and their legacy that has lasted more than 100 years.
