The Junction City Police Department is receiving reports of a phone scam targeting members of the community.
The caller spoofs a local law enforcement phone number so it appears legitimate on the caller ID, then claims to be a detective with either the Junction City Police Department or the Geary County Sheriff's Office. They tell the recipient that Homeland Security has issued a warrant for their arrest and demand immediate payment to avoid being taken into custody. Some callers threaten that officers are already en route if payment is not made.
It is a scam.
