At Tuesday night's City Commission meeting, Junction City Commissioners discussed with city officials the request for demolition of the former Knights Inn located at 1024 South Washington Street.

City officials say the structure was determined to be an unsafe due to multiple cracks in the brick walls, due to settling, causing bricks to fall out.

City Manager Allen Dinkel says the property owner has received multiple notices about the condition of the building, and if the commission approves the request for demolition, the cost for demolition will be billed to the property owner and if unpaid will be assessed to the taxes.

The property owner spoke up during Dinkel’s comments notifying commissioners that he has a contract for demolition and is working out the details before proceeding.

City Commissioners agreed to postpone the request for demolition until the next city commission meeting on September 20th, to allow the property owner and contractor time to present a plan for demolition.
