
The annual cross country motorycle ride called Run for the Wall will make a stop in Junction City late Sunday afternoon. Riders are expected to leave I-70 and roll up North Washington Sreet to Heritage Park where there will be a ceremony to welcome the riders who are traveling from Ontario, CA to Washington DC to a final stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
This event that draws riders from across the country has been in existencce for 34 years. It was originally started to raise awareness about POW's, KIA's and MIA's. In Junction City the ride coordinator, David Eckel, noted that about 300 to 400 riders will travel up Washington Street through an avenue of 300 flags held by volunteers.
State Representative Nate Butler will serve as the keynote speaker during a ceremony in front of the Kansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial. That will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
Riders will then travel to the Eagles for dinner and then spend the night in Junction City. Early the next morning they will be fed breakfast before departing eastward on their trip.
