Junction City Commissioners have granted a $10,000 funding request for 2026 from the Geary County Historical Society.
According to Historical Society Director Heather Hagedorn the County reduced funding for the organization by $15,000 from the amount received this year and $25,000 from the amount requested for next year.
The city commission vote was 4-1 in favor with Commissioner Richard Pinaire voting no. He expressed concern about setting a precedent and the possibility there might be other potential funding sources.
Hagedorn noted that without the money from the City free programming would go away at the museum but the lights would remain on.
