Junction City man jailed for alleged shooting death of his girlfriend

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a deadly drive-by shooting and have arrested a Junction City man identified as 38-year-old Dennis Leroy Alcox, according to the Sedgwick County booking report.

Just before 2a.m. Thursday, police responded to a shooting in the 8100 block of E Harry in Wichita, according to Police Lt. Aaron Moses.

First responders located 26-year old Audreanna Hidalgo of Wichita with a gunshot wound.  She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers with the Patrol East Community Response Team and Homicide Investigators immediately began investigating this case to understand what occurred. Throughout that investigation, police have come to believe that this was a case of Intimate Partner Violence.

Our investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect. Police arrested  Alcox in Junction City, according to Moses.

Alcox was booked into the Sedgwick County jail just before 5p.m. Thursday, according to jail records. He is being held on requested charges of first degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and contempt of court, according to online jail records.

Alcox was on pre-trial supervision on a charge of Aggravated Battery. There is no documented history between this suspect and victim through the Wichita Police Department, according to Moses.  

This is the eighth criminal homicide in Wichita in 2024.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, at 1:54 a.m., Wichita Police Officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 8100 block of E. Harry. Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Audreanna Hidalgo of Wichita with a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, Audreanna was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers from the Wichita Police Department’s Community Response Team and Homicide Investigations Unit determined that this was a case of Intimate Partner Violence. They identified the suspect as a 38-year-old male of Junction City.

Investigators from the Wichita Police Department utilized the FLOCK License Plate Reader system, confirming that the suspect had returned to Junction City in the early morning hours of February 22nd. Upon verification, the Wichita Police Department promptly informed the Junction City Police Department, initiating a collaborative effort to apprehend the suspect.

Subsequently, officers and detectives from the Junction City Police Department ascertained the suspect's address, leading to his apprehension at 8:32 a.m., without any further incident.

Both the Wichita and Junction City Police Departments' Investigations Units are working on this case to compile additional evidence before the suspect's transfer to Wichita for formal charging procedures.

Police assured the public that there is no current threat to the safety of either community. As this investigation is active, no further information can be disclosed at this time. Wichita Police are currently working with investigators in Junction City to transport the suspect to Wichita and execute search warrants in their jurisdiction.

 The suspect, whose name has not been released, was on pre-trial supervision on a charge of Aggravated Battery. There is no documented history between this suspect and victim through the Wichita Police Department, according to Moses.   This is the eighth criminal homicide in Wichita in 2024.
