Sandra R. 'Sandy' Sanders

Sandra R. “Sandy” Sanders, 68, Hays, died Friday, March 3, 2023, at Rooks County Health Center.

She was born November 11, 1954, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Roman C. “Roy” and Ruth (Kronewitter) Zimmerman.  Sandy attended Marian High School, graduating in 1972.  On November 11, 1972, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Werth.  He preceded her in death in 1976.  On August 9, 1979, she was united in marriage to Paul Sanders, and they later divorced.  For many years, she worked as a receptionist for Eagle Communications.  Sandy was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, prayed the rosary every morning, baked delicious cookies for her family, and adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Zimmerman of Hays, a son, James Werth, Jr. of Hays, four daughters, Amy Hudson and husband Caleb of Ellis, Lori Hearne and husband Travis of Bucklin, Sara Sanders of Olathe, and Heather Yates and husband John of Fort Riley, a brother, Keith Zimmerman and wife Anne of Hays, three sisters, Sheila Kelsay and husband Larry of Wichita, Karen Kisner and husband Dale of Hays, and Kay Werth and husband Loran of Hays, eleven grandchildren, Luke Lohrmeyer and wife Kayli, Eli and Noah Lohrmeyer, Hunter and Gunnar Hearne, Laine, Emerson, and Hadleigh Werth, Emily Siercks, Tye and Phoebe Yates, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and first husband Jim. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Private family inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
