Improvements are being made at the hospital facility

Redoing the main electrical for the old portion of the hospital in Junction City is part of the plan at the Stormont Vail Flint Hills Campus. Geary County Public Building Commission members learned Monday changes are planned around the elevators by the electrical room. It will take 600 days to finish that $2.8 million project.

Redoing all the heating and cooling is under way in the facility, repairs are planned for the cooling tower and efforts are beginning to look at wastewater piping  on the second and third floor of the Medical Arts building. It is not yet out for bid.

Initially $20 million was budgeted for the county for deferred maintenance at the hospital, but it is clear that will not be enough to meet needs. Beyond that total, costs would have to be considered by Stormont Vail.
