Geary USD 475 Board of Education members have voted 7-0 to close the existing Early Childhood Center plus the Heim and Hauge buildings at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
The District will open the new Early Childhood Center in time for the 2026 - 2027 school year. That facility is currently under construction and will be completed in April. It will include 32 classrooms, a multipurpose room, and be a 70,000 square foot facility.
The Board received a report on a separate virtual school operation in USD 475. There are 13 students including two middle school and 13 high school students. There are three staff members.
Board members Kristy Haden and Dr. Beth Hudson attended the recent Association of the United States Army meetings in Washington D.C. Due to the federal government shutdown less military attended than in past years and there were not as many meetings on Capitol Hill because staff were not there. The Secretary of the Army noted that there is a need to upgrade technology.
