Blue Jays roll past Washburn Rural 70-25

Andrew Khoury threw six touchdown passes, Marcello Bussey and Russell Wilkey scored three times as the Junction City Blue Jays defeated the Washburn Rural Junior Blues 70-25 in round two of the Class 6A postseason playoffs.

Washburn scored first on a 45-yard field goal at Al Simpler Stadium but the Blue Jays answered back on their next two possessions on scoring strikes of 76 and 14 yards. Junction City led 35-11 at halftime and moved on to get their eighth victory in nine tries this season.

The Junior Blues put up back to back touchdowns with one coming at the end of the first half on a pass to Lukas Hanks and another one on a 71-yard touchdown run by  Ma'kenttis Adams.

Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman said his team put together a tremendous week of practice. "Just so proud of our kids, the resiliency of our kids. They come to work every day, just keep getting better. "

Junction City will host Wichita East in round three of  the Class 6A playoffs next Friday at Al Simpler Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. You will be able to hear that contest on 107.9 FM / 1420 KJCK AM. The broadcast will begin at 6:30 p.m.
