As USD 475 deals with potential budget challenges for the next school year different options are under consideration to help. A proposal outlined by the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Reginald Eggleston, that gained attention at this week's Board of Education meeting included the H.D. Karns Building and the Grandview Elemntary School facility.
The Karns Building could be sold or it could be demolished to make room in the future for a new Washington Elementary School. Grandview Elementary could be closed and the Alternative School could be moved from Karns to the Grandview facility.
The old early childhood facilities could be closed since a new Early Childhood Center is due to open.
Final action has not occurred. There would have to be public hearings and discussions with stakeholders.
There was another suggestion that arose during Board discussion, the possible closing of Fegan Field, the athletic field which is located near the Karns Building and is no longer in use. That site in central Junction City could be considered prime real estate.
The latest plan would leave IT services at the Larry Dixon Center.
The Board of Education discussed the topics during a meeting Tuesday night.
