KDOT has closed the South Washington Roundabout this week to begin work on the next phase of that project with the closure of the westbound Exit 296 on-ramp. The project entails reconstructing the South Washington Street roundabout as well as the portion of Washington Street that runs below I-70. Weather permitting, the roundabout and Washington Street are slated to reopen in September. Meanwhile, both westbound ramps at Exit 296 will remain closed until all work for the 2024 construction season is completed in late November, weather permitting. The information was contained in the City's 515 Report.
Although both eastbound ramps at Exit 296 will remain open, they will only provide access to Washington Street south of the ramps. No through traffic will be carried on Washington Street under I-70 until completion of this year’s work on the roundabout project. Additionally, please note that the Westbound Exit 298 on ramp reopened on June 26th and will remain open throughout the remainder of this project.
