Robert Andrew Prockish, 96, of Wamego, Kansas, died Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the community.
Robert was born on July 16, 1928, in Union Township in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, the son of Andrew and Genevieve (Eckart) Prockish Jr. He attended grade school and graduated from Flush High School in 1946.
He married Barbara Lee Nye on January 4, 1950, in Flush, Kansas. They shared over sixty-two years together until her death on November 15, 2012.
Robert worked most of his adult life in the construction business. He was a crane operator for several years and then became a construction supervisor with Bayer Construction. After his retirement, he was a courtesy van driver for Briggs Auto Group in Manhattan until he was 85 years old. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, especially Pitch and Pinochle, and playing Wahoo. He also enjoyed camping. He was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Robert is survived by his children; Robert Prockish, Jr. (Ann), Omaha, Nebraska, Richard Prockish (Leatrice), Manhattan, Wayne Prockish (Betsy), Topeka, Joyce Schau (Scott), Shawnee, and Penny Adams, Wamego; his grandchildren, Dustin Prockish, (Jenni), Kansas City, Missouri, Sarah Holladay, Overland Park, Lacey Prockish, Rose Hill, Brett Prockish, San Diego, California, Abbey Hefti (Bryan), Topeka, Weston Prockish, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Katherine Schau, Eugene, Oregon, Kristen Schau, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Shelby Adams, Wamego; his step-grandchild, Carol Aplin, Boston, Massachusetts; Robert’s great-grandchildren, Hannah Prockish, Ava Gay, Harper Leis, Freddy Hefti, Jackson Gay and Ralph Hefti; his two sisters, Barbara Siebert, Flush and Sharon Brunin (Don), St. Marys. Robert was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Paul Prockish, Gilbert Prockish and Rose Moran, and his son-in-law, Chris Adams.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Robert will lie-in- state, Friday, beginning at 3:00 pm, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm.
