On May 27 the JC Breakfast Optimist Club members met at the Hampton Inn and heard Ron Johnson, club Vice President, share about the upcoming Brigade Baseball season. The team’s first game on Friday, May 30 at 6:00 PM will be the home opener for the Brigade, which plays in a league made up of mostly baseball players currently in college.
Ron stated that “the original founders of the previous team, The Generals, included Cecil Aska, Josh Allen, Jeff Underhill, Adam Wilke, Mike Heldstab and himself. After a couple of years without a team, a group of local baseball enthusiasts got together, created a non-profit organization and renamed the team The Brigade.”
Home games are played at the historic Rathert Field located at 900 West 13th Street in Junction City. Rathert Field was completed in 1937. The playing field has since been updated with artificial turf, restrooms and a concession stand. Games begin at 6:00 PM. Tickets may be purchased at the door at a cost of $5.00 for general admission and $3.00 for Seniors.
