JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - Junction City High School sophomore Cade McCallum has been selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Kansas State University in June.
McCallum, an automation engineering pathway student, will be able to attend the camp thanks to an annual scholarship provided by the JC Breakfast Optimist Club. Following his time as a Blue Jay, McCallum, who plays tight end for the football team, plans to pursue a degree in agricultural engineering, combining his interests in science and engineering to prepare for a future career in the field.
Founded in 1958 by actor Hugh O’Brian, HOBY works to inspire high school students to recognize their leadership potential and make a positive impact in their communities. The organization focuses on teaching students how to think, rather than what to think, while helping them develop awareness, confidence, connections and a sense of purpose.
The seminar will take place on the campus of K-State in Manhattan on June 3-6.
