Geary County Commissioners recently adopted a proposed 2022 county budget for publication. It contains a slight drop in the property tax levy of 0.175 of one mill, but the overall spending plan would be up about $200,000 from 2021 due to increases in assessed valuation.
Geary County Commission Chair Trish Giordano notd that it was difficult to make reductions. " But I think our intention was to keep the mill levy about the same since our valuations were going up. "
The spending plan does include a financial coordinator. Applications are being accepted until Sept. 3rd.
A public hearing and final approval for the budget are still pending.
