The Junction City Blue Jay Tennis team hosted Manhattan on a windy, cold Thursday afternoon for a traditional 9 match duel. The Blue Jays started the competition with the six singles matches. Hayden Diestelkamp won the top singles spot by the score of 6-0, 6-3. Alex Matthews was winning the #3 spot, 3-0, before his opponent had to default due to an injury. Cesar Edgerton Diaz Lorenzo, Alan Leis, Carl Baskerville and David Trammell, the #2, 4, 5 and 6 players all dropped their singles matches.
Doubles play highlighted the afternoon for the Blue Jays as both #1 and #2 doubles teams won their matches with thrilling third set super tie break victories. Diestelkamp, who ended the day 2-0, and Edgerton Diaz Lorenzo competed in the top spot while Matthews and Trammell played in the #2 doubles spot. Due to an injury default, the final doubles match was not played.
The Blue Jays next travel to Topeka on Saturday for the All Comers tournament. Matches will start at 9 am and be held at the Kossover Tennis Center.
