
The Geary County Sheriff's Department has announced via social media that Sheriff's Office employees recently gathered for not just a holiday celebration but also to honor some very specific employees.
--Corrections Officer Lt. Damon Artavia Corrections Officer of the Year.
--Corrections Officer Mileyka McAfee was honored with the Life Saving Award of the Year for corrections. McAfee reacted quickly to an unresponsive offender in jail by administering CPR until medical personnel arrived.
--Capt. Justin Stopper, Lt. James Regalado and Deputy Shawn Weeks for their life saving work in late December 2022. The trio went out on Milford Lake in extreme conditions to rescue a hunter whose small watercraft became disabled.
--Bradley Rose was presented with Civilian of the Year for his untiring work within the Sheriff's Office
--Sgt. Steven Clarke was given the Deputy of the Year award for his continual work on the road and positive attitude within the department.
