Geary County employees learned about a number of safety related topics and procedures during a daylong event on Monday at the convention center in Junction City. Garry Berges, Emergency Management Director, touched on active duty shooter scenarios, saying most of those that occur in the workplace involve one person. He added employees received information on the types of weapons that they could use to protect themselves, "as they're trying to get away from the shooter. You can use stuff like fire extinguishers, throw chairs and books."

There were sessions on multiple other topics ranging from cyber security to CPR and how to stop the bleed if a shooting happened. Fire extinguisher training was also covered.
