There is a graduation problem in the community. A member of the public, Will Ravenstein, conveyed that message to the Geary USD 475 Board of Education Monday evening.

Ravenstein informed the Board that there will be more than 300 student graduates this year. They get six tickets per family. There is seating in the main gym and in an overflow room. He has suggested an academy style commencement where there would be seperate ceremonies for different academies in the school. They could be held on the same day at different times. That could then allow more people at a ceremony.

The Board learned no action could be taken on the idea this year because invitations have already been sent out. But there was plenty of discussion by the members. Tom Brungardt felt the idea should be studied, Anwar Khoury supported moving commencement to the football field and Ron Johnson pointed out 50% of the time in the past for the outdoor ceremonies it had rained. ( Those ceremonies had to be moved indoors. )

The Board did not make any decisions Monday evening but the topic did peak their interest.
