Fort Riley Middle School principal Kathleen Brennan was recently named to the Kansas State Board of Education Blue Ribbon Task Force on Student Screen Time.“I am extremely excited to represent USD 475 on this task force and feel honored to serve alongside some of the brightest and best in education in our state,” said Brennan. “Hopefully, I can help make a difference in not only our USD 475 students’ lives, but also throughout the state.”
During the Kansas State Board of Education’s August meeting, members identified the topics and individuals who will serve on the Blue-Ribbon Task Force on Screen Time in Schools and Brennan was chosen. The 36-member task force will discuss the following areas: use of personal devices in schools, parental oversight of district-issued devices, screen time and mental health.
By being named to the task force, Brennan will work alongside four other principals from across the state of Kansas in Eric Hofer-Holdeman of Wichita USD 259, Brian Houghton of Fredonia USD 484, John Niehues of Greeley County USD 200 and Kamiel Evans of Wichita USD 259.
The task force is comprised of students, parents, teachers, school administrators, local school board members, two legislators, two state school board members and information technology experts. The 10 state board members each chose two individuals to serve on the task force.
