Winning Blue Jay football season comes to a conclusion

The 2021 Junction City Blue Jay varsity football team went 8-2 and clinched a share of the Centennial League championship along with Washburn Rural and Manhattan. They also won a postseason game against Haysville Campus.

The Blue Jays were recognized during an awards assembly at JCHS on Sunday.

Coach Randall Zimmerman told the audience the Blue Jay seniors were a "great group of guys who had overcome a lot." He noted that there had not been an awards assembly for two years because of COVID-19. "But you're able to be a part of teams that went 26-7 your last three years. Last two years, 18-4, that's a pretty good mark."

Numerous awards were presented. The award and the recipients  included: 

Ron Lowry Memorial Award given to the most outstanding freshman was presented to Petren Bartolome.

Malcolm Tibbetts Memorial Award to the most inspirational player went to T.J. Jones.

Joseph Sinegal Memorial Award to Elijah Clarke-Boyd.

Coach Al Simpler Memorial Award went to three players David Rowell, Xavion Felton and Logan Nabus. 

Elijah Carter / Salisbury Memorial Award was presented to Elijah Clarke-Boyd.

Black Lion Award went to Keghan McConnell.

Coach Frank Drew Memorial Award was presented to Donque Williams and Damarion Sellers. 

Felix Snipes Memorial Award honors were given to Rudy Vargas and TJ Osa.

Offensive Player of the Year honors went to Xavion Felton and T.J. Jones.

Defensive Player of the year honors were received by Elijah Clarke-Boyd and Keghan McConnell.

Special Teams Player of the Year recognition went to Aiden Field.

Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year honors were awarded to Brayden Smith.

Scout Team Defensive Player of the Year recognition went to Damarion Smith.
