Freedom Fest JC is the name of the new Fourth of July celebration being planned in Junction City. The members of the City Commission did not take a vote but agreed by consensus this week to allow it to move forward. That would allow the new organization to use City facilities and make plans.
City Manager Allen Dinkel said he met with two representatives from the Freedom Fest JC group, Bob Story and Sharon Glessner, and they wanted to propose an event in Heritage Park from July 1-4. "If there is an event we'll have costs as far as our in-kind costs with parks and public works, and also law enforcement and EMS. "
Dinkel noted this is just a start, and there is a lot of discussion between the Freedom Fest JC and the other 4th of July celebration, Sundown Salute.
Sundown Salute organizers recently announced plans to move much of that celebration to Milford, with fireworks being shot off in the Milford Lake area, and the Sundown Salute parade and Veterans Ceremony being held in Junction City.
