Darrell D. McClain, 84, of Clay Center, Kansas died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Reverend Paul Tessaro officiating.

Darrell was born November 21, 1940, in Norton, Kansas the son of Deyo and Velva (Campbell) McClain.

Darrell grew up on a farm. Growing up on a farm, he learned the value of hard work. During that time, he learned many trades. The trades he learned helped shape the rest of his life with a good work ethic. His main vocation was a truck driver. He had the nickname of "Smiley". He was kind to everyone and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Darrell loved the mountains so much he moved his family to Montana. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, riding in his Jeep on the mountain roads. He enjoyed any type of outdoor adventure and also helped with various forest fires.

On June 4, 1961, he married Bette "Jean" Miller in Norton, Kansas. They were married for sixty four years.

Survivors include his wife Jean of Clay Center, Kansas; one son, Stacey McClain; one daughter, Vicki Score; four grandchildren, Elmer Schulze, Jamie Hoehn, Tiffani Hoehn and Alex McClain; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerald McClain.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
