County Chair Alex Tyson noted on Monday that after an executive session the county commission has agreed to have Geary Community Hospital leaders and county staff prepare an updated transition plan for the hospital. That will then be presented to the commission. This is part of the effort to support GCH operations this year going forward toward a Jan. 1 agreement with Stormont Vail Health where that entity will assume oversight of the operations at the hospital.
Negotiations continue between the city and county on some possible funding help from the city to meet operational expenses for GCH this year, but Tyson made one point clear. "The county is still going to push forward and make sure that we get to the finish line. We have to see this through." Tyson added that the county needs true, good health care and the partnership with Stormont Vail puts that plan in action.
