National Weather Service implements a Heat Advisory and Heat Watch

Posted Jun 17, 2022 11:27 AM

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM THIS EVENING... ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

Heat indices of 103 or greater are forecast along with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s for portions of central, east central, north central and northeast Kansas.  Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

While maximum heat indices are expected to be similar each afternoon Friday through Monday, lows will continue to increase this weekend, and this prolonged period of dangerous heat will begin to compound heat-related health concerns.

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
