RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an incident involving an inmate at the Riley County Correctional Facility.

Just after 11a.m. Thursday, officers filed a report for battery on LEO in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Rd. in Manhattan on January 19, 2023, around 11:15 a.m.

A 25-year-old male Corrections Officer reported an already confined 61-year-old male inmate identified as Russell Spring of Manhattan spit in his face.

Springer now faces a new charge of battery on law enforcement officer. This arrest holds a bond of $25,000 bringing his total bond to $44,500. He was jailed in December for alleged battery on a law enforcement officer, according to RCPD arrest records.

Springer has two previous felony convictions for battery of corrections employee, theft and a violation of protective order issued from abuse, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
