There is a reason for the low county vaccination rate

Geary County Commission Chair Trish Giordano said Monday that the Kansas vaccine website lists the county in last place. But after a meeting with Tammy Von Busch and Charles Martinez of  the Health Department, the governing body learned that there is a reason.

"That is because Fort Riley and VA are not reporting their numbers to the state, "said Giordano. "So I believe we are doing as much as we can to get as many people vaccinated."

Giordano noted that there will be a vaccine fair in June at both the 12th Street Community Center and Green Park Apartments. They will serve members of the public who do not want to be vaccinated at Geary Community Hospital or the county health department.

The commission chair added, "Anybody who was vaccinated on Fort Riley that lives in Geary County is not counted through KDHE ( Kansas Department of Health & Environment ) and anybody that vaccinated through the VA has not been counted. "

Just checking Geary County Health Department COVID-19 positive case numbers only on Monday, there were 16 active cases and one person was hospitalized.
