Kansas woman hospitalized after 3-vehicle crash in heavy rain

GEARY COUNTY—Three people were injured in an accident just after 4:30p.m. Monday in Geary County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Riley N. Brungardt, 24, Hoisington, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near Moritz Road. The driver lost control of the SUV in heavy rain. 

The Jeep struck a 2024 Buick Encore driven by Tammy Bevan-Tyler, 63, Overland Park, who was parked on the South shoulder of I-70.  The impact pushed the Buick forward into a 2019 Ford Ranger driven by Jake A. Sobonilla, 24, Fort Riley, who was also parked on the south shoulder.

EMS transported Brungardt to Stormont Vail Health - Flint Hills Campus. Bevan-Tyler and a passenger in the Buick had minor injuries and were not transported. Sobonilla was not injured. All four were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
