Board of Education meeting highlights

USD 475 Communications Coordinator

USD 475 announced that on Monday Dr. Deb Gustafson, Geary County Schools USD 475 Associate Superintendent, recognized exemplary students with the 3R Award. The award is given to students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of respect, responsibility and building positive relationships.

Earning recognition on Monday were Cade McCallum of Junction City Middle School and Junction City High School’s Julia Cho, Jaelynn Rhone, Myah Waliyaya and Makayla Smith.

Purple Star Recognition

A Purple Star Commemorative Vase was awarded to Junction City Middle School, Fort Riley Middle School and Junction City High School at Monday night’s school board meeting for demonstrating a major commitment to supporting students and their families connected to the United States military.

USD 475 Teachers Honored

Geary County Schools USD 475 recognized Westwood Elementary kindergarten teacher Stephanie Sowell and Fort Riley Middle School sixth grade language arts teacher Mary McConnell for being named the district’s nominees for the Kansas Master Teacher Award.

Sowell was named the USD 475 Elementary Master Teacher Award nominee, while McConnell claimed the Secondary

Master Teacher Award nomination. By being named USD 475’s Master Teacher Award winners, Sowell and McConnell both received a $500 check from Sunflower Bank of Junction City
