RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating an alleged arson fire at Manhattan High School have made an arrest.
Just after 10a.m. Thursday, police arrested 16-year-old Jason Lucas of Manhattan in the 2300 block of Oak Street after he was found in his vehicle in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.
In addition to the drug allegations, police arrested Lucas on requested charges of aggravated arson in connection to a November 28, incident at Manhattan High School in the 2100 block of Poyntz Avenue. It was reported he set a bathroom soap dispenser on fire during school hours. A teacher with a fire extinguisher quickly put the fire out.
Lucas was transported to the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility in Junction City on the requested arson charge and for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an electronic cigarette by a minor.
