The Big Red One Year of Honor comes to a close

The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley will host its final Big Red One Year of Honor events Friday, Dec.10. Honoring four Medal of Honor recipients, the day’s events provide an opportunity to reflect on their stories as today’s Soldiers aspire to be the best they can in their lives.  

The day begins with a 9:30 a.m. Commemoration Ceremony at Victory Park honoring Sgt. Candelario Garcia, B Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment; Cpl. Henry Warner, Antitank Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Infantry; Pvt. Robert Henry, 16th Infantry; Pfc. Ross McGinnis, 1st Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment. Maj. Gen. D.A. Sims, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, will speak at the ceremony, sharing their battlefield gallantry to inspire today’s Soldiers.  

In the afternoon, Fort Riley will unveil new street signs in honor of the four Medal of Honor recipients.
