RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an attempted car theft and crash in Manhattan.
Just after 2:30a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the report of a crash in the 2600 block of Farm Bureau Road in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.
At the scene, officers found a 43-year-old man whose 2014 Dodge Ram was stolen while he was working in an attached trailer.
The man was able to step out of the trailer as the truck and trailer drove away. After traveling a short distance, the truck hit a speed limit sign and stopped.
The suspect driving the truck, later identified as 28-year-old Jesus Blanco then ran north on Linear Trail.
Officers found Blanco walking back toward the scene on Linear Trail. He was found to be intoxicated. Police arrested him on requested charges of theft and driving while under the influence. He remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $9,000.
