Maxine Grafe Block left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Diversicare in Council Grove, Kansas.  Maxine was born October 6, 1914 in Emmett, Idaho.  She moved to San Diego, California in 1930 where she worked for Convair Aviation until 1946.  In 1945 she met Glen Block, who was stationed in San Diego in the Navy.  They married in 1946 and moved to a farm near White City, Kansas.  Maxine worked many years sewing at the Paragon Dress Factory in Herington and lived on the farm until Glen’s passing in 2004.

Glen and Maxine love dancing to the tunes of the Big Bands.  Seeing Glen at more than 6 feet and Maxine at barely more than 5 feet twirl and glide across the floor was a special sight for all who saw them.

After Glen passed away in 2004, Maxine moved to Council Grove, but continued to drive to White City weekly to get her hair done.  Maxine made many friends during time in Council Grove and continued to go dancing as often as she could.  Maxine attended the Community Christian Church in Council Grove.

Maxine greatly enjoyed each birthday, especially from her 100th on.  The warm wishes and kindness of the people of Council Grove continued each year including her 106th birthday this past October.  There was usually something special planned for each of those “100 something” birthdays and Maxine loved each of them whether it was dancing at Diversicare or being featured on Channel 13 News.

Maxine really enjoyed her time at Diversicare of Council Grove.  She spoke often of the kindness and great care she received from the staff.  The family would like to thank all those who cared for Maxine, you were all very special to her.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Marlene Dalquest of Council Grove, as well as many great and great—great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Diversicare of Council Grove and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, Kansas 66846.

Condolences may be left  www.sawyerchapel.com.

A graveside service will be held later this spring.
