The Junction City Blue Jays open their 2021 baseball season Thursday at Rathert Field. It will be the first game for a Blue Jay baseball team since 2019 and their first home game since 2018. The contests with Salina Central will mark the first time a JCHS team has been able to play a game on the artificial turf infield at Rathert Field.
He's been a longtime assistant but Carl Laughlin is prepared to serve in his first game as JCHS head coach. "I'm really excited. I haven't slept for the last couple of weeks. "

The Blue Jays were unable to play at Rathert Field last year due to the COVID-19 related cancellation of the season, and in 2019 because the new turf and outfield grass project was not yet completed.
On Thursday the JV teams will play a single contest at 4 p.m. and the varsity will begin play a single game beginning in the 6 to 6:30 p.m. time frame. On Friday the teams will repeat the same schedule with the Blue Jays playing Salina Central in Salina.
