Geary County Commission Chair Trish Giordano confirmed this week that county officials are still in the process of trying to hire a financial coordinator. She said they are talking to an individual. "I am hoping we can either work something out or we are going to have to move on as far as having them on board. '
Having a financial officer is an important priority for Giordano. "We need to start doing a three to five year plan. That's what I would like to do within the next year on our capital improvements and our equipment policies as far as when we replace stuff so we're not stuck when something breaks down."
Giordano feels the financial coordinator role because it will be totally new and start from scratch. "We need to update our software because our department heads have no electronic access to their budgets. I think that is very hard on a month to month basis just to wait until the end of the month to get their reports. " Giordano added that she thinks having that involved with the new financial coordinator will make things more efficient.
