State Sen. Jeff Longbine reported to Geary County Commissioners this past week that the next round of state redistricting will consume every minute of the upcoming legislative session. Longbine said he was within one percent of the current population in his 17th Senate district, but one Senate district will have to placed in the Kansas City area and that affects everyone else.
Longbine also noted that Sen. Tom Hawk needs to lose about 11,000 people in his 22nd district, and it's unknown who will pick up representation for Milford and areas in the north part of the county. He mentioned that Sen. Elaine Bowers ( Sen. District 36 ) of Concordia could be a likely possibility.
No final action has occurred. The Kansas legislative session begins in January.
