A delegation from Junction City attended the American Defense Community Conference in Monterey, California. One member of the group, Geary County Commissioner Trish Giordano, provided a briefing to her fellow commissioners on Monday.
Giordano said that they discussed how "national security starts at home." The need for a strong community supports the base to be prepared for anything. Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta discussed the importance of a strong community supporting the bases especially if base realignment and closure ever comes up again.
Giordano noted that some areas support their base with working quarterly meetings with city, county and installations on needs and issues. She supported looking at that idea.
In addition to Giordano other local officials who attended the conference included Junction City Commissioners Al Gordon and Ricardo Gutierrez, USD 475 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Eggleston, MAC Director Rob Wilson, Junction City Finance Director Jamel Wilcox and Junction City Clerk Ariana Lorenzo.
