The Geary County Historical Society will celebrate A History Experience: An American Birthday this Saturday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Museum, 530 North Adams in Junction City. You can celebrate Kansas's 165th Birthday with birthday party celebrations from the past.
The event will also kick off America 250 activities in the community.
According to Historical Society Executive Director Heather Hagedorn there will be treats, dresses and activities from 1770, 1860 and 1970. Examples will include the game, Pin the Tail on the Donkey from 1972, rag dolls, living historians and birthday cake. "Well I'm a Kansas historian so anytime we can go back and look at those early days of our state and explore what made people want to settle here, explore the difficulties settling here, I'm all about it. We just want people to enjoy history as much as we do."
This event is free and open to the public thanks to funding by United Way.. No RSVP is required.
