The Geary County Health Department has issued an advisory on the nationwide outbreak of cyclospora. So far 22 cases have been reported in Kansas in 2026. There have been 1,645 lab confirmed cases across the nation.
Cyclospora is a parasite that causes intestinal illness. Current investigators believe that the outbreak is likely linked to fresh produce, but no specific food or supplier has been confirmed.
To protect yourself wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food. Rinse fresh fruits and vegetables under running water and refrigerate perishable foods promptly.
No cases have been reported in Geary Couny.
