RCPD: 81-year-old arrested for crash that killed Riley Co. man

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal July 2021 accident have made an arrest.

On Thursday, police arrested 81-year-old Russell Peterson of Randolph, on a Riley County District Court Warrant on requested charges of  Murder in the 2nd Degree; unintentional but reckless, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that just after 8:30a.m. Sunday July 25, a 2006 Volvo semi driven by Russell Peterson, 81, Randolph was eastbound on Greet Randolph Road one half mile north of Randolph.

 The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 77.  The semi struck a northbound Acura driven by Adam Samuelson, 38, Randolph. 

EMS transported Samuelson to Stormont Vail where he died. Peterson was not injured.  

On Thursday Peterson was issued a total bond of $100,000 and is not confined in the Riley County Jail, according to the RCPD.
