Gary Robert Langvardt was born February 23, 1938, in Junction City, Kansas to Donnell Frederick “Doc” and Loretta (Day) Langvardt. He attended the Antelope country school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1956. He married Connie Crow on January 1, 1959, at her parents’ home in Ottawa County near Bennington. They lived in Salina for 17 years. Most of those years, he worked for Salina Coffee House. In 1975, he started working for J.C. Livestock Sales and they moved to Chapman; then in 1984, to Junction City. He loved his family, his horses, and his dog Gracie.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Daniel of Junction City; two daughters, Pamela Haynes and her husband Dr. Robert of Junction City, and Teresa Johnston-Arndt and her husband Vince of Ottawa, Kansas; six grandchildren, Robby (Emily) Haynes, Matt (Leslie) Haynes, Andrew (Haylee) Haynes, Dr. Joshua (Katie) Haynes, Rachel and Jacob Johnston; ten great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rhett, Katie, Nash, Graham, Adalynn, Lane, Leighton, Harrison and Grady Haynes and a baby girl expected in March; a sister, Shirley Price (Bob), Wichita, and a brother Donnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, Joseph Gary Haynes. Gary had 34 first cousins in the Langvardt family and 19 of them are still living.
Gary always said he had to feed at the barn; then would be gone 2-3 hours. “I would have been home earlier, but…………”.
“God won’t ask what your job title was. He’ll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability.” hobby is a blessing.
Connie’s cousin Tim explained Gary to his children as a real cowboy who didn’t just smile with his mouth, but with his eyes, too. “Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched, For nothing loved is ever lost – and he was loved so much.”
