Many parents are not having their say on things that are going on in Geary USD 475, and there are a lot of controversial issues occurring in this country. Those are sentiments expressed by school board candidate Bryan Bliss, who noted that he wants to get a foot in the door to ensure that he can put a stop to a lot of it.
Bliss said he has also talked to a lot of teachers and the main topic people want to talk about is lack of discipline. "We need to get in there and support these teachers. There seems to be little consistency from one school to the next on how they're handling it and reporting it. " Bliss noted that the District needs to come along side of those teachers so they can enjoy their careers, and pull out those students out so they can realize that there are consequences to their actions. "Until their behavior gets taken care of they'll come in later on." Bliss also added that he feels the teachers need to concentrate on the entire class, and not one or two individuals.
Bliss called for more study on both sides of the social emotional learning issue, and noted that a good place to look for additional information is a website called "Courage is a Habit."
The election is November 7.
