Cathy Lynn ( Moore ) Thornhill

Cathy Lynn (Moore) Thornhill, 65, was born August 19, 1959, in Waterloo, Iowa to Rayman Moore Sr. and Delores (Livingston) Moore. Cathy passed away October 1, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas Hospital surrounded by her daughters.

Cathy graduated from Tripoli High School, Tripoli Iowa in 1977. When Cathy graduated, she attended Indian Hills College, Ottumwa. She joined the US Army, serving for 10 years 4 months. (1985-1996). While in the service she married Richard Thornhill, and they were later divorced. She specialized in light vehicle Mechanic’s. She was stationed in Korea; Germany and her final duty was at Ft. Riley Kansas. Cathy was a Veteran of the Golf War. She proudly served her country. While in the service she was awarded 2 Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service medal with 2 Bronze service stars and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.

When Cathy got out of the military, she worked at several different jobs in Kansas. Working in a mailbox factory, the Post Office, a Jailer at the Sheriff’s Department, even getting her CDL and driving semi-trucks for a short period.

Cathy loved to volunteer as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the holiday season and volunteered for United Way for many years. In Cathy’s downtime, she enjoyed crocheting.

Cathy was proceeded in death by her parents, Rayman Moore Sr. and Delores Moore.

Cathy is survived by her four Children: Andrew Thornhill, Marie (John) Holmes-Wernecke, Tambra Thornhill, Michelle Thornhill, four Grand Daughters and two Grand Sons.

Her four sisters, Wanda (Ronny) Heidemann, Clarissa Moore, Donna (Mark) Zell, Karen Thurm, and two brothers, Rayman (Carri) Moore Jr., Lonny (Shawntelle) Moore; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, great niece and nephews. She is also survived by an Uncle John (Sandy) Livingston and an Aunt, Rose Boyce.

Graveside service with Military honors is being planned for Cathy, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery for Ft. Riley, Kansas where she will be laid to rest. The address for Graveside service is 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan Kansas 66503
