David Allen Ramsey

David Allen Ramsey, 58, of Manhattan, KS passed away on April 3, 2022. He was born at Irwin Army Hospital, Fort Riley, KS on April 25, 1963 to Shirley L. (Ebberts) and Robert F. Ramsey, Lt Col.

David grew up in Manhattan, Ks, graduated from Manhattan High School in 1981. After graduation he started his career in the car stereo industry, worked with his brother Radley at Team Electronics and then Radley’s business, Omni Electronics, in Lawrence. He returned to Manhattan and worked at Audio Junction in Junction City, KS.

In 1991 he attended Manhattan Area Technical College studying computer repair technology. He graduated as a member of The National Honor Society in 1993 and began his 24 year career with Logan Business Machines. In 2017, he started Ramsey Home Repair, which he continued until he became ill and was no longer able to do the work he really enjoyed.

In May 2021, he became ill with congestive heart failure and while being evaluated for a heart transplant at The University of Kansas he was diagnosed with a rare condition, AL Amyloidosis, which was the cause of his heart failure.

David prided himself in being a true “townie”, spending his entire childhood growing up on Houston St. He was an avid KSU athletics fan, fondly remembering going to the Big 8 basketball tournaments in Kansas City as a child. His greatest fan experiences were attending the 1998 and 2003 football wins against Nebraska.

He enjoyed gardening, taking pride in his well-kept yard, vehicles and home. He coached his sons and nephews recreational baseball teams, but got his greatest joy spending time with his sons and family at the lake skiing, boating and riding the Sea Doo with the boys.

David married Melanie Marguerite (Martin) Ramsey December 30, 1995 at St Isadore’s Catholic Student Center. They have two sons, Ryan and Cole of Manhattan.

He is survived by his wife and sons. His sister Jami Ramsey of Manhattan; father-in-law Don Martin of Clay Center KS; sisters-in- law Francine Martin of Topeka KS, Angela Martin of Manhattan KS; brothers-in-law Scott (Polly) Martin of Aurora CO, Steven (Charity) Martin of Terrell TX and Timothy (Roxanna) Martin of Clay Center KS; nine nephews and seven nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Radley Ramsey, of Manhattan KS, and Stuart Ramsey of Houston TX; mother-in-law Lois Martin of Clay Center, KS.

Per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be Friday, April 8 from 6:00-7:30 PM at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at the funeral home, with Pastor Barry Dundas officiating.  You are invited to wear purple or KSU apparel in memory of David. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dave Ramsey Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home. Donations will go to Long’s Park (Manhattan Parks and Rec) projects and upkeep, or the Amyloidosis Foundation for research and treatment
