Chapman has been holding a Labor Day celebration since 1909. This year's two-day event begins with the Lions Club Golf Tournament on Sunday at the Indian Hills Golf Course . There will be shotgun starts at 8 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. in the 4-person scramble.
Other activities on Sunday range from a chili cook-off and pie contest from noon until 2 to a beer garden from 6-10 p.m. and a street dance from 7-10 p.m. Star-Gazing is scheduled from 8 -10 Sunday evening where you can see the stars and planets using the Chapman Library's telescope.
On Monday the annual Lions Club Labor Day parade will begin at 2 p.m. Other activities will include the Class of '77 car show at Chapman High School and a silent auction inside the Chapman Nazarene Church from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Touch a Truck will be held at the District Gym from 8 until noon, arts/crafts food vendor down from 8 to 3, Antique tractor show south of the high school from 9 to noon, quilt show at the Methodist Church fellowship hall 9-4, axe-throwing in Sheeran Park 10 to 1:30, self-guided barn quilt tour, kids pedal pull at Sheeran Park 10:30, burgers and beer at the American Legion from 11 to 1 and a beer garden noon until 3 p.m.
