Freedom Run Coordinators
Junction City, Kansas: The historic Junction City Freedom Run reaches a landmark milestone — its 50th year — on July 4, 2026, as a cornerstone of the annual Freedom Fest celebration. Registration is now open for the 1-mile, 5K, and certified 10K course. All races will begin at 7:30 a.m. from downtown Junction City, with the celebratory finish at Heritage Park. This year's race promises more fanfare than ever as runners, volunteers and spectators come together to honor five decades of community, patriotism. Expect an elevated race-day experience befitting this golden anniversary from the starting line to the finish.
The prestigious certification for the 10K course continues to allow runners to use their times for qualification purposes at other races nationwide.
"Fifty years is something truly special," says Terrah Stroda, event coordinator. "While maintaining our community-focused, patriotic atmosphere, we're celebrating this half-century milestone with more energy and excitement than ever before.
Race organizers continue to prioritize the runner experience with enhanced water stops, precision course markings, chip timing and atmosphere that has made this event a regional favorite.
All three courses will begin simultaneously at the intersection of 8th and Washington in downtown Junction City, creating a mass start that has become a highlight of the event.
Non-runners can participate by volunteering at spirited water stations, assisting with course safety or contributing to the unique finish line experience. Those interested in volunteering should message the Freedom Run – Junction City Facebook page.
