Press Release - Junction City Main Street

Junction City Main Street has been chosen as one of only 25 communities nationwide to participate in the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program, USDA Forest Service, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Denali Commission and the Northern Border Regional Commission, a partnership led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This exciting program will bring national agencies and experts to Junction City/Geary County to work alongside our community, helping us develop strategies that strengthen our outdoor recreational assets, support small businesses, and grow our local economy.

What this means for Junction City:

  1. Community workshops to shape a shared vision for recreation and downtown vitality
  2. Technical assistance to guide new projects, investments, and build on our natural asset, the best backyard in Kansas.
  3. Long-term strategies to boost tourism, entrepreneurship, and quality of life

This is a huge opportunity for Junction City to build on our strengths, tell our story, and invest in a thriving future. Stay tuned for details on upcoming community workshops—your voice will be vital in shaping the plan!

Together, we’re making Junction City/Geary County a destination for both residents and visitors who want to connect, explore, and experience all our community has to offer.
