Ruth Kemp, 101 died January 30, 2021 in Clay Center, KS. She was born on January 2, 1920 in Clay County, the daughter of William and Mary Elizabeth (Muston) Hammond. Ruth was raised in rural Wakefield, graduating with the Class of 1937 from Rural Wakefield High School. She married David Cullip on November 8, 1937. They made their home and farmed near Junction City, in Washington state and in Colorado. David preceded her in death on May 7, 1953. Ruth and the children returned to the Wakefield area in 1957. On July 4, 1969, Ruth married Walter Kemp. They moved to Yankton, SD where Ruth worked as a waitress. They retired in 1977 and moved to Washington, KS then to the Happy Face Farm on the Oak Hill road in 1981. Walter preceded her in death on May 25, 1997. Ruth was a member of Mizpah United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Organization, and the Friendly Neighbor’s Club. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, David; daughter, Peggy; grandson, Luke Adams; sister, Pearl Hemphill; brothers, Lloyd, Joe, Leroy and Earl Hammond
